15.07.2010 The twelfth session of the intergovernmental Russian-German consultations is in progress in Yekaterinburg. The Russian delegation is headed by President Dmitry Medvedev and the German – by Chancellor Angela Merkel.
During their visit to Yekaterinburg Dmitry Medvedev and Angela Merkel met with Russia and German business circles. The meetings were held with participation of Rainer Bruderle, Federal Minister for Economy and Technology of Germany, Mr. Eckhard Cordes, Chairman of the Board of METRO, Russian ministers Mr. Viktor Khristenko and Ms. Elvira Nabiullina, Mr. Viktor Vekselberg, the owner of Renova, etc. A series of documents was signed after meetings and negotiations. Siemens signed a memorandum of understanding with the Skolkovo Foundation and a memorandum of cooperation in energy efficiency with RENOVA StroyGroup. In the discussion of the Skolkovo project, Akademia City in Yekaterinburg was mentioned on numerous occasions as the first experimental urban development project in Russia. Angela Merkel was impressed with the scale of construction and development in Akademia City, in particular the number of its residents. By 2025 Akademia City will have 325 thousand residents, which can be compared to Bonn in Germany, Bornmud and its suburbs in England or Smolensk in Russia.
